Spirit Buses looks at ‘lifeline’ route options

A change of circumstances, meaning that its rural routes become uneconomic, will see Northumberland-based Spirit Buses end its ‘lifeline’ link from Alnwick to Rothbury and intermediate villages from 5 November.

The move has been forced by Arriva’s win of a tender and changes to its routes. However, contrary to a report elsewhere in the trade press, Steve Hurst, Director of the Rothbury-based firm, has confirmed that it is not ceasing trading. Instead, it is “in discussions” with the council and other operators to ensure the continuation of services.
