Unilink has placed a £7m order for 32 ADL Enviro400 MMC ‘deckers. It follows the University of Southampton’s decision to renew its contract with Go-Ahead Group owned Bluestar – which runs the service on its behalf.
To be delivered later this year, they will have a “fresh new look” free wi-fi, USB ports and contactless payments.
“Unilink has been a real success for the University,” says University of Southampton transport manager, Adam Tewkesbury. “And we are delighted that we will enter the next contract period with a fleet of new buses.
“They will offer additional comfort for every passenger travelling on our services – and they will also carry the latest Euro 6 low-emission engines, making them greener than ever.”
Andrew Wickham, managing director of Bluestar, added: “We know just how important it is to make sustainable transport a more attractive proposition, in order to entice people out of their cars – and this investment is a huge step in that direction.
“Reducing congestion and helping to improve air quality is a responsibility we all share."
