A Syrian civil war refugee who is now a National Express West Midlands’ bus driver is helping other refugees in their resettlement.
Former veterinary surgeon Louai Almasri was offered resettlement in the UK and arrived in 2015.
He applied to become a National Express West Midlands’ driver in March 2017, and is based at the operator’s central Birmingham garage.
Louai regularly volunteers at Lozells Methodist Church, which provides a safe space every Saturday for Syrian refugees seeking help.
“I want to be a good role model and help other refugees to become part of the community,” says Louai, who isn’t sure about resuming veterinary work because he enjoys bus driving.
