The Conservative Party has promised that there will be more ‘green bus fund’ style capital grants.
Its General Election manifesto contains just 27 words on the coach and bus industry.
It says: “We will invest in more low-emission buses, as well as supporting audio-visual displays for bus passengers and community minibuses for rural areas poorly served by public transport.”
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has taken over from the Green Bus Fund in England. The last OLEV grants for buses were in July 2016 when £30m was awarded. No more bus-specified funding has since been announced.
Green bus funding in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales is devolved, with only Scotland ever have made grants. As a result there are no green buses in Wales or Northern Ireland.
