The Skills Challenge is back for its eighth year to showcase the best of bus and coach engineering. We talk to SOE Head of Operations Daniel Moir about the contest
How is the competition evolving?
The format of the competition will mostly be the same as it does seem to be a winning formula, but we are introducing some new ideas, such as the Master Technician category. This will be open to all previous winners of the competition who want to come back and compete again. It will keep engineering talent moving through and enable others to progress. Engineering is all about new challenges, so it’s very likely we’ll have a few other surprises in store.
How will the Skills Challenge make use of the latest bus and coach technology?
We are really excited about the new technology we are going to be using and are lucky to be able to count on our sponsors in providing equipment and technical knowledge. This sector is changing dramatically, and we want to show that through our competition.
Why is the Skills Challenge important?
By entering the Skills Challenge it gives both qualified and apprentice technicians the opportunity to showcase their talent in a competitive environment. We want to show what engineering looks like in 2018 and, through the competition, we can show others how challenging and appealing this industry is.
How can you take part?
If you are a bus and coach operator you can go to www.irteskills.org.uk for more information and to access the registration form.
