Ceasing to operate local registered bus services without giving the required 56 days notice is a “complete abdication” of an operator’s responsibilities to the public, local authorities and Traffic Commissioners (TC), says TC Nick Jones.
The practice is “abhorrent and wholly unacceptable,” he said when he revoked the 19-vehicle O-Licence held by Wrexham-based David and Gary Jones, trading as D Jones & Son.
He also indefinitely disqualified the partners from holding an O-Licence and issued them with a £10,450 penalty.
Gary Jones was also disqualified indefinitely from being a Transport Manager.
Describing the firm’s actions in ceasing to operate at less than 24 hours notice on 16 December 2017 as “pathetic,” the TC said the required 56 days notice to cease operating registered services was critical.
Operators must understand that if they are going to close, they must notify the TC and give the required notice, added the TC.
