A donated bus is being used to help Cleveland and Durham Police practice tackling emergency situations.
The double deck vehicle, which has been donated by Go North East, is already being used as a key facility for more than 100 firearms officers and commanders to offer more realistic training in handling potentially difficult scenarios on board. These include hostage situations and working with negotiators, and helping injured passengers.
Following the donation, Cleveland and Durham Police delivered essential training to Go North East’s senior leadership team on handling potentially difficult situations. Similar training will take place with the company’s control room staff shortly.
“What’s especially rewarding about this relationship with Cleveland and Durham Police is the ability for us to learn from one another and, for the ongoing support and training they have provided, we are extremely grateful,” says Stephen King, Go North East’s Commercial Director.
“We are really grateful for the donation. It will enhance the effectiveness of our training, benefitting the officers and the public,” says Inspector Karl Brown, of Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit.
