Stagecoach East Midlands unveiled a special bus yesterday (14 November), which honours Hull-born Lillian Bilocca and her historic campaigning for the safety of trawler men.
The operator gave people the chance to name a bus after a famous or influential person and ‘Big Lil’ was the winner.
‘Big Lil’ and the ‘headscarf revolutionaries’, successfully campaigned for better working conditions of trawler men at sea in 1968.
Michelle Hargreaves, Managing Director at Stagecoach East Midlands, says: “We have dedicated eight of our Hull buses to key figures in Hull and are delighted that the ninth bus has been named after such a inspirational person in history.”
Big Lil is in service throughout the city.
