Otley town centre was unusually busy yesterday (15 October), with the 50th anniversary of the West Yorkshire Road Car Company taking over the bus services of the Samuel Ledgard Society.
The bus on the left is an ex London Transport AEC Regent III RLH, almost identical to the four that Ledgard’s bought in 1965. This one is owned by Timebus, a vintage bus hire company in Watford whose vehicles are all in London livery and when it was due for overhaul some years ago, they kindly chose to repaint it in Ledgard livery and drive it 200 miles to our event, plus other subsequent ones.
Alongside the RLH is an Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 MMC, which has had additions to its livery commemorating the anniversary, including a mural on the staircase panel.
Both buses were attracting their own crowds, with the modern ADL’s staircase mural proving to be of particular interest.
