I agree with Mark [routeone/Letters/16 November] and Tony [routeone/Letters/7 December].
I have stopped a local pub taking punters home after they had a night out. The landlord would take all partygoers home, charging them £1 for transport in a 16-seat minibus, which was falling apart. He was not insured, and would do multiple runs.
I am all for the regulations for safe transport, and it makes my blood boil when I report vehicles and nothing gets done to stop these illegal minibuses running around towns and cities flouting the law.
I have tried my best to find out about local council transport to see if they are operating for hire and reward, and I have come to the conclusion that they are. The reason being that you can hire a vehicle to take groups all sorts of venues for a small charge.
Something has got to be done to find out if they are flouting the transport law, so all genuine operators can have a level playing field to keep there business afloat and carry on serving the public.
