In response to Mark Williams' letter, I wholeheartedly agree. In my opinion I also don’t believe that there is any need in London to drive a private car.
The tube, coach, bus and taxi systems as they stand at the moment are more than capable of carrying the required number of commuters during rush hour as well as not.
In my opinion the likes of Addison Lee and private hire vehicles are not required. Do away with these and the black cab drivers will see an increase in profit, which can then be reinvested into electric/hybrid vehicles.
Also an increase in coach and bus revenue through extra taxes raised can then be used to identify and rectify the numerous bottlenecks on the country's roads, which will in turn make a significant change to pollution levels.
