Having read recent reports in magazines concerning Traffic Commisioners and PIs, I have arrived at the conclusion that they have lost the plot.
I have read about a long-established London operator who didn't have LEZ traps fitted and got banned, even though VOSA themselves are the only people who can issue certificates.
I have read about a Liverpool operator who got banned for filming a TC speeding and posting it on YouTube, and there was an operator with multiple driver offences who retained a licence. Plus, a firm lending Digicards to drivers also retained their licence.
Does this mean that it's okay to run drivers illegally, but someone try’s to rebel against the system and they get hung, drawn and quartered?
Couple this with the vast difference between HGV and PCV operations. In HGV operations, running with no licence is rife and from what I can tell substantially unchecked.
The system needs a massive rethink, as a level playing field it is not. I would suggest getting some ex-operators on the scene to look and study the cases – people who actually know what's going on, rather than people who appear to be clueless and ego driven.
