Trent Barton is to start eFan Micro Hybrid System retrofits to its existing fleet.
It follows successful tests and will initially concentrate on Optare Versas on its Ilkeston-Sawley my15 route, followed by Volvo B7RLEs on the Mickleover-Derby route. Other routes and models will follow. .
Trent Barton MD Jeff Counsell says: “The AVID eFan Micro Hybrid System is one of the first times we have seen such a clear and tangible improvement in fuel consumption. The cost savings and environmental benefits make this a real no-brainer for us.”
The system replaces a belt or hydraulically-driven cooling pack with a high performance integrated system using high-efficiency fans, high performance heat exchangers and an advanced electronic control system.
This improves fuel efficiency by reducing the power consumed by the cooling system and ensures optimum engine temperatures are maintained.
The system also improves reliability as it greatly simplifies cooling pack cleaning as the fans can be reversed to suck debris out of the system.
It also removes the fire risk of a hydraulic system, and can be connected into a fire suppression system to shut the fans down.
