A little while ago, the Thomas Mottershead Statue Appeal put out a plea for someone or a company to purchase a blue plaque for 6 Vine Street, Widnes, the birthplace of Sergeant Thomas Mottershead VC DCM.
No sooner had we made our plea than Richard Bamber from Anthony's Travel contacted us and offered to purchase the plaque.
This isn't the first time Richard and Anthony's Travel have come to our aid. We cannot thank Richard enough, but as he keeps saying, “it's my pleasure to help with such a worthy cause.”
The plaque will be unveiled on Tom’s birthday, 17 January.
We must remember Richard and Anthony's Travel help many local worthy charities and appeals, and they don't get the recognition they should do.
After all, it is only a small local family business and not a multi-national company. They can only do so much, but they do make a massive difference to a great many people in Halton, most of it unrecognised.
Without the likes of Richard and Anthony's Travel, a great many people would not be able to achieve what they set out to do. The world needs more people like him.
