Mellor has purchased a site adjacent to its Miall Street base in Rochdale that will allow a “massive” growth of its manufacturing capacity.
The site will provide Mellor with an additional 15,000ft2 of space for production and administration. A £1m investment includes the purchase of the land and the planned upgrade project, which is scheduled for completion by June.
Expansion will allow two new production lines and the creation of 40 jobs over the next three years and it has been driven by increased demand for Mellor’s products, says John Randerson, MD – Bus Division of parent company Woodall Nicholson.
“This purchase and the planned expansion of our facilities will massively increase our output, and although we anticipate the redevelopment’s completion by June, we expect manufacturing to begin as early as April or May.
“Our expansion is the result of an increase in demand for our products, which follows the introduction of a number of highly-innovative vehicles, including the Strata and our zero-emission Orion E low-floor minibus.”
He adds that ongoing growth means that Mellor also requires more office space. “Being able to acquire this site, which is directly adjacent to our existing premises, was the perfect solution.”
Mellor’s desire to expand into European markets is already well in hand. Woodall Nicholson purchased Treka Bus in 2017.
