Accessible Tucana pair mean that
Monmouthshire’s grass stays green
The Grass Routes Community Transport
Scheme operated by Monmouthshire
County Council has added two new Mellor
Tucana II buses to its fl eet.
A responsive service that runs to support
the transport requirements of the county’s
residents, Grass Routes is a fl exible service
with a timetable that can be adapted to meet
the demands of passengers.
While the Tucana II boasts a seating
capacity of 16 and up to four wheelchairs, its
neat and compact construction also makes it
suitable for narrow rural lanes and housing
estates where access may be restricted.
Designed to make public transport
accessible for all, the Tucana II includes a
variety of features to accommodate less
able passengers. The Ventura sliding door
effectively eliminates the kerb gap while the
low fl oor allows easy, step-free access for
those with limited mobility.
Based on the Volkswagen Transporter
chassis, it also has two manual rear doors for
access to a fold-out ramp.
Koller puts a full stop on safety issues
and falls from height with new device
Koller Engineering, specialists in the design
and manufacture of wheelchair accessible
vehicle products, is putting a full stop to
safety issues when using vehicle passenger
lifts with the launch of a new safety barrier.
It has created a strong and robust barrier
providing peace of mind when using a
vehicle’s access lift.
It increases safety by stopping a
wheelchair, semi-ambulant person, or
attendant falling from the raised platform.
“The risk of wheelchair users and
attendants falling from the raised platform
of a vehicle is very real and is something
that needed to be addressed,” says Koller
Engineering MD Dean Koller.
Fall Stop simply clips into the lift.
Weighing just 3.5kg, Fall Stop can be stored
with ease in the vehicle making it “an
additional safety feature that all accessible
vehicles really shouldn’t be without,” he
