Centrad has launched a 360-degree panoramic intelligent driver assistance system that comprises a four-camera monitoring solution to eliminate blind spots, reduce incident rates, and lower the cost of insurance claims for commercial fleet operators.

Called Centrad 360, it will provide coach and bus drivers with a real-time surround view. The product has been developed to deliver what the supplier says is “complete situational awareness” and will enable greater confidence in manoeuvring.

Safety will also improve, supporting operators in reducing collisions and vehicle downtime and avoiding the reputational and financial impact of incidents.

Centrad points out that blind spots remain one of the most common causes of low-speed collisions, particularly in urban environments where visibility is restricted. That puts vulnerable road users at greater risk, it adds.

“Research shows that in the time it takes for a driver to check multiple mirrors, assess a situation and react, a vehicle travelling at low speed can still move several metres – more than enough distance for a collision to occur,” the supplier continues.

Centrad 360 addresses the challenges of low speed manoeuvring via its use of four high-definition cameras. One is on the front of the vehicle and another at the rear. The other two are integrated into exterior mirrors.

Together, the cameras create a seamless 360-degree bird’s eye view presented as s single image. It gives drivers a complete and real-time perspective of their surroundings without needing to piece together multiple feeds.

Offered are both 360- and 180-degree split-view displays that provide enhanced visibility for longer and taller vehicle types. Durable, weatherproof cameras are used, with the cab monitor created for what Centrad says is quick and distraction-free viewing during complex driving situations.

Speaking about the launch of Centrad 360, Managing Director Geoff Cross says: “Anyone who drives a commercial vehicle knows just how difficult it can be to keep track of everything happening around you, especially in busy urban environments where cyclists and pedestrians are often close by.

“With more customers prioritising safety and fleet operators under increasing pressure to reduce incidents and control costs, Centrad 360 gives drivers that extra level of awareness where it matters most.

“By providing a clear, real-time view around the vehicle, we are helping operators to take a proactive approach to reducing collisions, lowering claims, and protecting both their drivers and other road users – while ultimately improving the efficiency and profitability of their fleet operations.”
