Hoddesdon-based operator Golden Boy Coaches has adopted Push to Talk over Cellular (POC) communications, an instant voice radio solution that uses the cellular network to allow instant voice calls.
Supplied by Push to Talk International, an Inrico TM7 Plus 4G POC mobile radio has been installed on each of Golden Boy’s 36 coaches.
Additionally, the operator has also purchased three rugged Telo Systems 4G POC hand-held devices, with 4in touch-screens. They are dust- and water-resistant and can be submerged for up to 30 minutes.
Golden Boy has also taken four dispatcher applications. They sit on a Windows PC and give the ability to monitor, record and communicate with drivers.
Dynamic tracking of the fleet using the radios’ GPS aspect is possible, and the radios also have a safety feature in the form of an SOS button.
When pressed, it opens up the microphone for hands-free speech and triggers an alarm on the channel to the dispatcher, allowing assistance to be sent.
Push to Talk International has also supplied a number of other coach and bus operators and it will soon equip the entire Reading Buses fleet.
