Coach firm Lucketts Travel went on ‘manoeuvres’ across southern England to take many US Navy personal on shore leave.
With 36 hours’ notice, Fareham-based Lucketts created a plan to meet transport needs of USS Harry S Truman’s crew when the aircraft carrier reached Portsmouth after a month at sea.
Over five days, it transported more than 450 servicemen and women daily on a fleet of around 40 vehicles. Coaches and minibuses took crew members to sights, including London’s tourist attractions and Bath. A fleet of cars and smaller vehicles facilitated embassy and VIP visits.
Lucketts transported crew from USS George HW Bush on their visit to Portsmouth last year.
