London: New extra coach parking in six-week trial

The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has teamed up with Go-Ahead to provide an extra 900 coach parking spaces over six weeks for its members in central London this spring.

In a trial that could lead to permanent arrangement, further spaces may be available if demand exceeds supply.

CPT CEO Simon Posner is urging members to “take advantage” of new facilities and “feedback experiences.”

The arrangement starts on Monday (16 May) with 30 coach spaces each day at Go-Ahead’s Camberwell (20) and Stockwell (10) depots. Both, on the A202 and A203 respectively, are close to Vauxhall.

The six-week trial ends on Friday 24 June. Spaces are only available to CPT members and must be pre-booked at least the day before.

While Go-Ahead’s buses are on the streets during the day, the space they leave in Camberwell and Stockwell depots is available for coach parking

The coach parking facilities, just a couple of miles from many of the capital’s key tourist attractions, will be open from 0900-1700hrs, Monday to Friday and charged at £35 per day, plus a £1.50 administration fee and VAT.

Says Mr Posner: “I am delighted that we have reached an agreement when other facilities are either being removed or having restrictions placed on them.

“Coach parking and picking-up/setting-down has long been a contentious issue and I hope this goes some way to addressing concerns while also ensuring that coaches can continue to operate in this great city.

“I am confident that a successful trial will be the catalyst for further initiatives and we will certainly be looking to make the arrangement with Go-Ahead at Camberwell and Stockwell a permanent one.”
