Masabi, a leader in innovative public transport ticketing and fare collection, has worked with Keolis and Famoco to unveil a mass market mobile ticket validator that the three parties say will dramatically change the economics of mobile ticket deployment.
The vehicle-mounted validator gives fast and reliable scanning of 2D barcode tickets displayed on smartphone screens, along with smartcard and EMV-based contactless cards, providing the operator with extra security as well as information on vehicle usage and location.
Developed by the three companies, the device combines specialise expertise from global leaders in their respective fields.
“To date, the cost of mobile ticket validators has been a significant barrier to bus operators,” says Masabi CEO Brian Zanghi.
“This new validator offers a solution at a quarter of the price of alternative hardware, opening up a whole new market and also making multi-door boarding a reality.”
Famoco has provided the secure Android-based device, Keolis subsidiary Kisio Digital the front-end customer application, and Masabi is delivering the software that powers the system.
A pilot is currently under way on the network of Orleans Metropole, with general rollout planned for the first half of 2018.
