A21 upgrade opens and smooths traffic

Originally planned to open last December, the £70m, three-miles A21 Tonbridge-Pembury scheme opens tomorrow (Thursday 21 September).

The former single-carriageway road, which had a high accident rate (20% above the average for the type of road and traffic levels), is now dual carriageway, removing a bottleneck.

It carries 35,000 vehicles a day and sits between two other dual-carriageway sections.
