Lucketts developing driver apprentice scheme

Driver apprenticeships will form part of a wider apprentice scheme

Fareham operator Lucketts Coaches has announced that part of an expansion of its apprentice programme this academic year will see the development of a driver apprenticeship scheme.

It will see local youngsters given the chance to ‘earn while they learn’, taking up a full-time role with the business while also receiving additional training towards a recognised qualification at college.

Lucketts will pay for the apprentices to take their driving test and acquire their PCV licence, a cost that it says many young people struggle to fund themselves.

Explains Joint MD Ian Luckett: “Developing the next generation of engineers, drivers and office staff is important to us as we look towards our next 90 years in business.

“The apprentices that we are training today could well be at the helm of the company in years to come, and giving them the right mix on on-the-job training and academic learning allows us to ensure that they have the very best skills.”
