BYD unveils world’s first electric coach

Chinese manufacturer BYD used the United Motor Coach Association Expo in New Orleans, USA, to unveil the world’s first long-range, 100% pure electric coach.

The two-axle 12m battery-powered BYD C9 seats 47 and “has a range at motorway speeds of over 190 miles,” says BYD.

It is the first of three battery-electric coaches BYD will launch globally this year. The other two, the C10 13.7m tri-axle and C6 7m “executive coach”, will be arriving by the end of 2015 and BYD says it is already starting to take orders for all three in North America.

BYD Europe says there are “no immediate plans” to introduce the electric coach range in Europe.
