Eastleigh’s Xelabus and Velvet agree on route transfer

Buses into Eastleigh and Barton Peveril College from the Hedge End area will be getting a new look, following a deal between Eastleigh’s two independent companies..

At the heart of the deal is route A, linking Eastleigh, Southampton Airport, West End and Hedge End every half hour.

This is supplemented by five routes providing dedicated student transport into one of the area’s largest colleges.

These routes – operated commercially by Velvet since 2008 – will transfer to Xelabus from 22 June.

Phil Stockley, MD of Velvet says: “After a difficult winter, we have made a decision to reduce the size of the company and focus on providing really high quality service on a small number of routes.

“We will continue to operate between Hedge End and Southampton and on our local routes around Southampton city.”

Phil Blair, Managing Director of Xelabus Limited says: “We specialise in college routes and the Barton Peveril services offered to us by Velvet fit in very well with our current services.

“We are already planning a number of new services for the Southampton, Fareham and Gosport areas which will start in September.”Unite Regional Officer Philip Oake says: “The announcement that the company is to be wound up comes as a shock to workers who were told that it would continue to operate for another month.”
