Kramer opens AV design competition for students

Transport Minister Baroness Kramer has launched a competition for students, aimed at devising new ways to make bus travel easier for people who have visual or hearing impairments.

The competition ( is run by the government-funded Transport Systems Catapult.

Baroness Kramer says: “Audio and visual announcements on buses are especially helpful for those who are visually or hearing impaired.”

The perceived high cost of existing technology has been cited as an obstacle by operators. It is hoped the competition will deliver ideas that can be turned into cost-effective systems.

The competition is open to all 14-18 year-olds, with a 1,000 prize.
