Transport Minister Baroness Kramer has launched a competition for students, aimed at devising new ways to make bus travel easier for people who have visual or hearing impairments.
The competition (www.theallaboardcompetition.co.uk) is run by the government-funded Transport Systems Catapult.
Baroness Kramer says: “Audio and visual announcements on buses are especially helpful for those who are visually or hearing impaired.â€
The perceived high cost of existing technology has been cited as an obstacle by operators. It is hoped the competition will deliver ideas that can be turned into cost-effective systems.
The competition is open to all 14-18 year-olds, with a 1,000 prize.
