Lottery to investigate ‘unfair’ CT funding after CPT approach

The Big Lottery Fund is investigating complaints about unfair funding.

The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) approached the Big Lottery Fund – part of the National Lottery – after complaints from operator members that community transport organisations were using vehicles that it had funded to compete in local markets..

The CPT says that it “made the point that there was little benefit to communities when services supplied by local businesses were simply switched to charities that had access to grant-aided assets.

“Some of their grants have funded assets that are being used to compete against commercial operators.”

The CPT reports that now the Fund has agreed to look at the cases that the CPT brought to its attention, and to review its policy to ensure that tackling rural isolation does not distort local markets.
