Reading Buses hires local man for Head of Commercial role

A man who has lived in Reading for most of his life – but who worked away from the town – has been appointed to a new management position within Reading Buses.

Andy Phillips is the operator’s first Head of Commercial, where he’ll have responsibility for looking after key commercial areas of the business and strengthening the long-term commercial strategy.

Andy describes his appointment as a ‘next step career progression’ which will ‘broaden his horizons’

He will work with the schedules, marketing and customer service departments as well as being responsible for revenue and pricing which will enable him to look for opportunities to grow the business. Andy previously spent 14 years in the travel, rail and airline sector.

Andy is looking forward to “challenging opportunities” that the new position offers, including the deployment of a new anticipated website, a new mobile app and the ability of customers to pay for their bus journey using contactless technology.

Says Andy: “I’m looking forward to building on what has been achieved and developing Reading Buses further to change the perception some people may have about buses, and persuade them to give up their cars to take journeys into town by bus.”
