UK Bus Driver of the Year still open for entries

Entries are still being invited from operators large and small for the national final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) competition in Blackpool on Sunday 14 September..

Joe Mackie, Chairman of organisers the UK Bus Driver of the Year Association, says the 2014 national final marks 48 years of BDoY, first run in 1967 as a local contest in Coventry.

Last year’s overall winner, and Bus Driver of the Year 2013, was Gordon Cutting from Stagecoach Oxfordshire who was up against 102 other drivers employed by all the major bus groups, municipal operators and smaller companies.

Says Mr Mackie: “We are particularly keen to have more entries from the municipal and independent sectors of the industry as they are under-represented at the moment.

“The National Final is a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”
