Yourbus’s Scott Dunn buys Sydney-based Telford’s Group

Scott Dunn, 39, owner of Heanor, Derbyshire-based Dunn Motor Traction, trading as Yourbus, has bought an Australian coach and bus firm. .

The Rachwal family has sold Sydney-based Telford’s Group to Dunn Group Australia Pty Ltd (DGA), with completion of the deal scheduled for 6 May.

Group CEO Mr Dunn has already moved, along with his family, to reside permanently in Australia, in his new role as DGA Managing Director.

Yourbus, which operates mainly in Nottingham, will remain in Mr Dunn’s ownership, and Management Accountant Steve Ward, 43, has been promoted to Yourbus MD. Mr Dunn will spend one week a month in the UK.

Announcing the deal, James and Robert Rachwal said: “The decision regarding the sale was a difficult one, however we believe DGA is well positioned to develop the opportunities available to the Telford’s Group.”

Telford’s Group started in 1978 when the Rachwal family bought Marrickville Bus Lines, which ran two bus routes, from Max Holman, Barry Barton and Orana Tours.

Since then, Telford’s has grown to be one of Sydney’s largest independents with a modern fleet of 74 vehicles, comprising low-floor buses, coaches and a midi-coach.

It holds a number of home-to-school contracts with private schools, and specialises in private hire, day-trip educational and senior citizens’ tours.

Founded in 2009 by Mr Dunn, Yourbus has grown rapidly from its initial two routes to an 18m turnover firm.

It operates 23 bus routes – backed by heavy investment in new vehicles including Mercedes-Benz Citaros – and five National Express routes, using 55 coaches also operated from depots in Durham and Bradford.
