Stagecoach is targeting a 4% fuel consumption reduction as a key result of fitting driver-focused fleet management system GreenRoad, as part of its EcoDriver scheme. .
Stagecoach has expanded its use of GreenRoad to its entire 8,830-strong fleet as it goes live in 1,200 buses, with 3,500 drivers, in London. It means that 22,000 Stagecoach drivers are now using GreenRoad to cut fuel consumption and benefiting from real-time driving behaviour feedback.
Results so far also show that Stagecoach drivers, at its 116 depots nationwide, are among the safest in the world with a record 13% of drivers (3,000) achieving Fleet Elite status in 2013, indicating the safest, most fuel-efficient driving possible. The industry average is 5%.
To encourage Stagecoach London drivers to reach its target of a 4% reduction in fuel, the EcoDriver incentive scheme gives them the chance to earn green points that are converted into financial benefits from a 225,000 annual bonus pot.
Stagecoach London UK Bus MD Mark Threapleton says: “We already invest millions of pounds a year in driver training and new vehicles. Installing this new system on all 1,200 of our buses will help limit the impact of our operations on the environment while helping our drivers to drive more safely.â€
Prior to the London deployment, Stagecoach conducted a trial at Bow depot demonstrating successfully to local drivers, depot managers and union leaders how GreenRoad has the power to improve driving behaviour and fleet effectiveness.
