Dartford crossing changes spell the end of pay at the barrier

The Highways Agency has released more information about changes to the Dartford Crossing. .

From October, all road users will pay the charge remotely and will no longer be able to stop at the barriers to pay. Payments will be made online, by text, at certain retail outlets or by phone; users will need to pay the charge in advance or by midnight the following day.

The new system is called Dart Charge. Road users, and in particular fleet managers, will be able to register for pre-paid Dart Charge accounts which offer a discount. These can be ‘topped up’ automatically as the balance reaches a threshold, or manually.

Current DART-Tag holders and DART-Tag registered fleets will be transferred to a new Dart Charge account and will not lose any existing credit. Any remaining funds will either be transferred or refunded as appropriate.
