Water works cause severe disruption to Reading’s services

Some of the worst disruption to buses ever seen in Reading has been delaying passengers and exasperating the operator and its drivers. .

The disruption to several Reading Buses routes in west Reading is due to the Bath Road closure near Liebenrood Road for emergency water works.

And although bus timetables have been severely affected, Reading Buses fully understands the works are necessary and supports Thames Water in its efforts to get the work done in one fell swoop.

“However, it really has created the worst traffic situation imaginable at peak times in the Tilehurst area, particularly in the morning peak,” said Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer James Freeman.

“We have been able to cope pretty well with the closure of Bath Road itself – now extended from May 12 – but the problem is the knock-on effect on Tilehurst Road and Oxford Road and rather further afield too.”
