Sunshine brings crowds to Safeguard Coaches’ Guildford open day

Safeguard Coaches’ open day in Guildford, marking its 90th anniversary, saw over 1,000 people flock to the depot in the sunshine..

Families, neighbours, customers, suppliers and local dignitaries attended the ‘village fete’-style open day, which included a barbecue, tombola, face-painting and a bouncy castle, as well as free rides on heritage buses and a 2014 New Routemaster, and displays of all Safeguard’s fleet. 5,475 was raised for charity. Safeguard also announced that two new coaches have been ordered, both 57-seater VDL Futura 2s, for delivery in September.

“You can’t buy this kind of publicity,” Andrew Halliday, Managing Director, tells routeone. “Hundreds of people have come in and seen what we’re about. Hopefully it’ll pay dividends in the future. Overall, everyone had a great time.”
