Cognitive skills given to 23 Nottingham City Transport managers

A total of 23 of Nottingham City Transport’s managers have received training to develop their thinking skills, with the outcome being a shift in their ability to think positively and critically. .

The three-day programme was designed by Avenham Associates and provided a set of thinking tools based on well-established research in cognitive psychology. Managers involved in driver training, IT, engineering, catering, marketing, HR and garage management took part in practical demonstrations on various themes. Those participating were tested before and after the programme, and a significant improvement in their critical thinking was identified. Two thirds of those taking part showed convincing improvements in reasoning and weighing up arguments.

Training and Development Officer Karl Ward, a participant, says: “The course made me realise that thinking critically is an important part of my role. I’d recommend it to any manager.”
