New award for BDoY National Final

When the National Final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) Competition takes place in Blackpool on Sunday 14 September, a new trophy will be awarded.

The fifth-placed finalist will be presented a trophy by Vix Technology, which has joined the ranks of BDoY sponsors. The trophy will be accompanied by a 150 cash award.

Joe Mackie, Chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Association, which organises the competition, says that Vix’s prominent position as one of the leading suppliers of ticketing and fare collection technology to the bus industry was a natural link with the objectives of BDoY.

The 2014 National Final will mark 48 years of BDoY, which was first run in 1967 as a local contest in Coventry and subsequently grew into a national event.

The competition is a unique showcase for bus driving skills and has become the industry’s premier event for the all-important front line staff employed by the major bus groups, municipal operators and smaller companies throughout the UK.

“We chose to sponsor BDoY as it encourages drivers to compete to be the safest in the country,” says Matt Beeton, Global Chief Operating Officer at Vix Technology.
