Stagecoach North Scotland MD Steve Walker has been appointed MD Stagecoach North East from 12 September. In the interim, the business will continue to be managed by Clare Kavanagh, Strategy Director, Stagecoach UK Bus.
It follows the news in June that North East MD Phil Medlicott had decided to leave the company, for a yet-to-be announced position elsewhere.
An internal recruitment process is now underway for the position of MD Stagecoach North Scotland.
Stagecoach North East is one of Stagecoach’s biggest regional companies with 1,400 employees, 470 buses and 63m passengers a year, with some of the highest levels of passenger satisfaction in the country.
It operates services in Newcastle, South Shields, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Teesside.
Mr Walker worked in the bus industry in Manchester before joining Stagecoach East Scotland in 2001. He became MD Stagecoach Highlands in June 2010 and then MD Stagecoach North Scotland in May 2013.
Says Stagecoach UK Bus MD Robert Montgomery: “His experience in the north of Scotland over the past six years will stand him in good stead to take on the opportunities and challenges of this new role.
“I have every confidence that he has the skills and experience to guide our north east business, working alongside our partners in the area, to deliver even better bus services for local people.”
