The FPT Industrial Cursor 9 Natural Gas (NG) engine is what powers the winning coach of ‘Sustainable Bus of the Year 2020’, the Iveco Bus Crossway Natural Power.
The award, judged by representatives from leading European bus trade magazines, evaluates a series of sustainability principles; including comfort, noise levels, safety and the sustainability commitment of the manufacturer.
The 8.7-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine offers a maximum power of 360hp at 2,000 rpm.
FPT Industrial says natural gas is the most viable and low-cost sustainable solution to the segment. It has sold some 50,000 engines of this type worldwide.
FPT says its diesel engines offer improved product lifecycle over the diesel engines, as well as reliability and the same accessibility, passenger capacity and luggage space as any diesel equivelant.
Natural gas significantly reduces emissions whether in compressed or liquified form. Emissions can be brought down further through the use of biomethane.
Cursor 9 NG uses stoichiometric combustion and multipoint sequential injection for improved fuel consumption. It complies with Euro VI using a three-way catalyst without exhaust gas recirculation.
