Memories of the Southsea-Ryde hovercraft


The Whisperer’s mention in last week’s routeone of the Johnsons excursions to the Isle of Wight by hovercraft [routeone/Whisperer/12 February] reminded me of my happy times in coaching, when planning day trips at Smiths Imperial Coaches and later Bowens – both of which included trips throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s to Southsea, where the hovercraft would take passengers across the Ryde.
