Nimbus Journey Information wins Reading RTP contract

Nimbus Journey information has won a contract to develop and refresh the Reading Borough Council real time passenger information system (RTPI).

It builds on recent success with Reading Transport (where Nimbus provides the on-bus media system and AVL), Milton Keynes ‘Get on Board’ RTPI, and the North East Lincolnshire RTPI system.

Says Nimbus MD Russell Gard: “Having worked with Reading Borough Council previously we are incredibly pleased to be able to continue working with it in this exciting project.”

Cllr Tony Page, Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport at Reading Borough Council, says: “We need to demonstrate best value and save money while still providing ever better services. This partnership will allow us to attain those goals while continuing to provide one of the best RTPI systems in the country.”

The Reading Council system was commissioned in 2003 and delivered in 2005. It used cutting-edge technology for the time. It has been progressively upgraded over the years to include the country’s first TFT street displays, advanced award-winning apps and QR codes, and an integrated on-bus audio-visual system.

The new system will replace it with a modern web-based system.
