Chinese-built Scania coach to be launched in the UK

The Scania Touring, the first models of which were launched across a number of European markets in 2009, is to be launched in the UK. .

Using Scania’s fuel-efficient 410hp SCR-only Euro 6 engine, the first examples will arrive in the country towards the end of this year. To be priced around 250,000 it will be available as a 13.7m, with 57 Kiel Avance seats and a toilet.

The Scania Touring is assembled on a dedicated production line in Chinese coach and bus builder Higer’s factory.

This enables Scania to maintain full control of all manufacturing and quality aspects. “The Scania Touring is a versatile, high quality, comfortable and quiet vehicle which is equally at home in the city or on long distance touring,” says Tony Tomsett, Bus, Coach and Engine Sales Director for Scania (Great Britain) Limited.

“Furthermore, the fact that this is a fully-built-up Scania product means that customers will benefit from a single point of contact when it comes to aftersales requirements. As such, we are confident the Scania Touring will soon establish itself as a firm favourite with Great Britain’s coach operators.”

The coach is pitched below the more upmarket OmniExpress, which remains available in two and three-axle versions.

Adds Mr Tomsett: “We’ve already got significant interest in the Scania Touring and we know there will be a fight for the first ones when they come into the country later this year.”
