Used coach and bus dealer Ensignbus has advertised the debut secondhand hybrid buses to come to the UK market. .
It has five Wrightbus Gemini 2 HEV integral double-deckers available. First registered in 2009 as members of Arriva London’s fleet, they have been substantially upgraded by Wrightbus and are now powered by its advanced Euro 5 series hybrid propulsion system as used in the New Routemaster, promising long periods of ‘engine off’ operation.
They have also received brand new battery and cooling packs, and the bodywork has been upgraded in a modification process that has cost over 100,000 per bus.
The 65-seat buses can be converted to single door layout by Ensignbus if required but are otherwise available immediately, says Operations Director Ross Newman, who adds that the asking price is “less than 100,000 each.â€
Ensignbus will also shortly have available five OptareTempo hybrids, which have come from London operator Metroline.
The dual-door Tempos are powered by Cummins ISBe engines coupled to Allison parallel hybrid packages.
