Oxford Bus Company (OBC) has completed a 3m fleet upgrade for its flagship Airline route and X90 Oxford-London. .
The latest arrivals are five Volvo B11R/Plaxton Paragons, with just 44 seats to ensure passengers have the best possible legroom.
At the start of the year five Plaxton Elite-i interdeck coaches entered service. The 65-seat vehicles were introduced to increase peak time capacity on the Airline route to Heathrow and the X90 to London. The latest coaches mean the average age of the Go-Ahead-owned Airline and X90 fleet is three years.
Both orders reflect a return to Volvo chassis after a number of years with Scania.
OBC Operations Director Phil Southall says: “We face tough competition on the London run but we know that high quality vehicles with plenty of legroom are extremely popular with our current passengers, and will attract newcomers to try the X90.
“We believe the legroom is
the most generous in the country on a scheduled coach service.â€
