Konectbus creates video guide to help pupils prepare for bus travel

Norfolk-based bus operator Konectbus has launched a new video aimed at easing the transition for Year 6 pupils preparing to travel to secondary school by bus for the first time this September.

The video is being released as part of the company’s Generation Go initiative, and offers step-by-step guidance for young passengers and their families on how to navigate buses, from boarding and ticketing to tracking journeys in real time. Its aim is to build confidence and promote safe independent travel for pupils between the ages of 10 and 11.

The operator says it serves as both practical advice and emotional reassurance at a key milestone in a child’s development. It also reflects a desire to embed sustainable travel habits early while alleviating concerns about pupil travel independence.

The film is available on the Konectbus website and is being shared with local high schools and feeder primaries across Norfolk in the run up to the new school term.

“Many parents will have walked or driven their children to school until now,” says a Konectbus spokesperson. “We understand that the idea of letting them travel alone can be daunting. That’s why we created this video — to offer reassurance, support, and clear guidance if they need to travel by bus.”

Parents have responded positively, with one mother from Dereham saying: “Letting my son travel to school on his own feels like a huge step, but the video really helped us both to feel more confident ahead of the new term, and knowing I can track his journey on the app gives me peace of mind.”
