Essex County Council has selected ECR Solutions, part of the HopOn Group, to deliver a countywide multipurpose transport app that will integrate journey planning, digital demand-responsive transport (DDRT) booking, ticketing, and other travel services.

The platform will allow residents in Greater Essex to plan, book and pay for  both fixed-route and flexible journeys on their smartphone or computer and includes bus, rail, walking, cycling, and other micro-mobility options. The council says it will contribute towards its focus on promoting a “greener, healthier Essex”.

The project is funded through the Bus Service Improvement Grant and is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the UK to provide such a wide scope of transport functions on a countywide basis.

The app will replace the existing TravelEssex app.

ECR will deliver the system in partnership with demand-responsive transport specialist Liftango. Liftango’s routing and booking technology will underpin the DDRT element. 2

Says Cllr Cunningham, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport: “We want to make it as easy as possible for residents to use safer, greener and healthier transport in Essex. TravelEssex, working with ECR Solutions, will create a single and inclusive digital platform. This will make it easier and simpler to plan, book and pay for travel across the county.”

Amir Rosenzweig, CEO of ECR and the HopOn Group, adds: “Everything we do is built around improving shared mobility. We have helped transform transport choices for clients around the world. We are excited to bring that experience to Essex. This project is about real change, making it easier for people to plan and take everyday journeys, with fewer barriers. We are proud to support a solution that helps more people leave the car behind and choose smarter, more sustainable ways to travel.”
