Progression to four-star rating under ECO Stars has seen insurance and fuel bills cut at South Yorks CTO
Achieving a four-star rating under the ECO Stars fleet efficiency scheme has generated large savings for Rotherham Community Transport (RCT).
RCT, which runs 38 minibuses, joined ECO Stars South Yorkshire in 2011 and supplied a full fleet listing to the body. An expert then visited it to assess each vehicle along with overall fleet management, and awarded an initial two-star rating – a solid foundation, says ECO Stars.
A ‘road map’ was then created, highlighting key actions including a roll-out of telematics, upgrading of vehicles, and driver training and incentives. Now that those have been achieved, benefits to RCT include:
- £40,000 saving in insurance costs
- 4% increase in MPG
- 3.71% reduction in CO2 emissions
- 1.52% reduction in particulate emissions.
“RCT is pleased to be associated with the ECO Stars scheme. Being part of it shows our commitment to continually looking at ways of improving fleet efficiency,” says General Manager Adrian Parkinson.
“We are committed to further reducing our impact on the environment and we believe that ECO Stars can help us to achieve that.”
ECO Stars schemes are in operation around the country and they are open to all fleet operators, including community transport organisations.
