Equipmake has taken an order from South American bus builder Agrale for 50 battery-electric drivelines. It is worth £5.45 million.

The agreement follows a previous five-unit evaluation and strengthens the partnership between Equipmake and Agrale. Each driveline package will include an electric motor, an inverter, control systems, and the battery pack.

Delivery will be between now and mid-2026. Completion of the deal takes the Snetterton firm’s live order book to over £10 million across its activities, which include the automotive sector as well as marine and aerospace.

In late-2024 Equipmake noted that its policy for the supply of battery-electric drivelines for use in bus fleets was to be targeted towards supply of those packages for fitment by third parties to leverage margins.

At an earlier stage of the work with Agrale, Equipmake brought an MT17.0 LEe bus to the UK for installation of the zero-emission driveline, going as far as to register the vehicle here for on-road testing in Norfolk.

Speaking about the deal for 50 drivelines, Equipmake CEO Ian Foley says: “This expansion of our partnership with Agrale represents a significant step for Equipmake and reflects the company’s move to generate higher-margin product and technology sales.

“Supplying electric drivetrain systems for 50 buses is a major milestone in our joint mission to bring zero-emission mass transit to South America. This growing success story reflects the trust Agrale places in our solutions and our shared commitment to developing a robust sustainable transport network in the region.”

Adds Agrale Director Edson Ares Sixto Martins: “Agrale is proud to deepen our partnership with Equipmake through this substantial new agreement.

“Its zero-emission drivetrain technology has proved to be highly reliable and efficient in our operations, and this expanded order underscores the strength of our collaboration in delivering clean, quiet and electrified public transit.”
