Selwyns Travel Group has purchased Ashton-in-Makerfield operator Eavesway Travel in a move that significantly strengthens the Runcorn-based buyer’s position in the north west England coach market.
Eavesway is well-known for its high-end coach fleet and a breadth of work that includes corporate and private hire, sports team transport, and cruise shuttle duties. It employs around 35 staff, all of whom will remain with the business under Selwyns’ ownership.
Managing Director Mike Eaves will continue with Eavesway to ensure a smooth transition to new ownership. He will work alongside Selwyns Travel Group Executive Chairman Selwyn Jones and Billy Jones, who in parallel with the purchase has been promoted to Managing Director of both operating companies.
Eavesway was founded by Mr Eaves’s grandfather in 1933, and he is now into his 55th year with the business. “This union paves the way for the next, significant stage in the future of Eavesway,” Mr Eaves comments. “I am confident that as part of the Selwyns Travel Group, the company will continue to go from strength to strength and that the legacy will live on.”
Recent fleet investment under Mr Eaves’ ownership included the delivery of a team-specification Van Hool T17 Astron, the third member of the T range to join Eavesway.
Adds Selwyn Jones: “For many decades, Eavesway has always had an excellent reputation as a premium operator in the north west for providing reliability, exceptional customer service, and high-quality vehicles.
“We are delighted to welcome Mike Eaves and his team to the Selwyns family and look forward to working with him to further develop our presence in the region and beyond.”
Eavesway will be maintained as a separate brand and standalone operation at Ashton-in-Makerfield under the new ownership, with Mr Jones noting its well-respected position both in the coach industry and among its customers.

The deal was completed on 1 January. It means that Selwyns Travel Group has over 100 vehicles and 280 staff across both operations. Billy Jones says: “This strategic move strengthens our position in the north west and expands our reach into new markets.
“Together, we will combine our expertise, resources and passion to continue to deliver exceptional customer service and create new opportunities for future growth.”
In announcing Billy Jones’s promotion to Managing Director of both Selwyns Travel Group operating companies, Selwyn Jones notes how the former Selwyns Travel Deputy Managing Director “has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and an unwavering commitment to the company.”
He adds: “His ability to inspire teams, drive meaningful results and foster strong relationships has made a significant impact across the company.” Prior to becoming Deputy MD, Billy Jones was Commercial and Finance Director of Selwyns Travel. He also becomes a director of the holding company as part of his change in responsibilities.
