Stagecoach has celebrated a successful first year of operating bus services on Guernsey, during which time it carried over 1.7 million passengers and covered in excess of 1.3 million miles.

It took over the island’s buses on 1 April 2025, having won an initial five-year contract from the States of Guernsey in September 2024. That captures 20 core services and 24 home-to-school routes and is delivered via the Stagecoach South West operating company.

Since mobilisation, a pair of Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV battery-electric small buses have been introduced. Stagecoach notes that further electric bus arrivals for the island are likely as part of work with the States of Guernsey to gradually replace the diesel fleet.

Improvements to vehicle cleanliness and service reliability are claimed by the group, which says it has delivered “reliable and customer-focused” operations since taking over.

Speaking about the success, Stagecoach South West Managing Director Peter Knight adds: “It has been an incredible year for Stagecoach on the island. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that customers get a clean, reliable service, and it is wonderful to see how our employees go above and beyond every day for the community.”

As evidence of that, the operator points to an occasion when one of its buses was diverted due to an emergency road closure. A customer service members drove a passenger to their doctor’s surgery, ensuring that an appointment would not be missed.

Adds Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure President, Deputy Adrian Gabriel: “From our side, we are delighted that Stagecoach has hit the ground running since it took over bus operations last year.

“As well as the day-to-day bus services, it has also used its extensive experience to help us to propose changes to Guernsey’s bus map and timetable to improve the service for users. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with it to provide islanders with a reliable bus service.”
