Transport UK London Bus is working with Targa Telematics on the management of its crew ferry vehicles.
Over 80 of those now fall under the supplier’s Car Sharing solution. It enables secure and keyless access for authorised drivers across different makes and models of ferry vehicles distributed across four of the six depots within the Transport UK London Bus business. Rollout is expected to be complete by the end of April.
The supplier says that by utilising its Car Sharing solution, the operator will ensure that access to its crew ferry vehicles is seamlessly managed via a digital system that replaces the need for physical key cabinets.
It provides audit visibility and restricts access to authorised personnel. That thus removes disruption caused by lost or unreturned keys. Driver authentication is carried out by using individual RFID cards scanned on a dashboard reader.
When authorised, that unit releases the vehicle immobiliser and automatically records the start of each driver’s session. A formal logout process at the end of each journey ensures traceability and sustained vehicle activity, Targa Telematics adds.
Speaking about the partnership, Transport UK London Bus Managing Director David Cutts says: “Ensuring that our drivers reach their changeover points on time is an essential part of providing a reliable bus service.
“Following a successful proof of concept trial, we are very pleased to partner with Targa Telematics, which has created a safe and seamless system for our people to access ferry vehicles, an increasing number of which, like our buses, are zero-emission.”
Adds Targa Telematics UK Commercial Director Chris Horbowyj: “We are proud to partner with Transport UK London Bus in supporting the smooth operation of one of the capital’s most important transport networks.
“Driver changeovers are a critical but often unseen part of urban bus operations. By digitising access to ferry vehicles and removing the operational risks associated with physical key management, our Car Sharing solution will drive greater efficiency, accountability, and service continuity.
“The partnership demonstrates how advanced digital mobility solutions can strengthen operational resilience within complex public transport environments, significantly improving fleet management.”
